Julia Bell the DNA Detective
Genetic genealogist Julia Bell

Julia Bell is a highly successful, independent DNA detective based in the UK. Known for her work, Julia has 20 years’ experience with tracing unknown American GI fathers of British children born under World War II, and has a special interest in UK foundlings.

Unlike some genealogists, Julia now smartly uses DNA as a tool in her genetic searches.

Inspired by her own successful search for her unknown GI grandfather, Julia employs her unique skills and unusual combination of logic, intuition, science and tenacity to achieve results.

Julia’s exciting work is regularly featured in newspapers, on radio and on television. Recent appearances include The Daily Mail, and BBC Radio 4’s Inside Science programme. Julia is DNA consultant for Wall to Wall: ITV’s Long Lost Family, and was the featured Genetic Genealogist on CTVC’s Separated at Birth, distributed internationally by The Learning Channel (TLC).

Live speaking engagements include the world’s largest family history show Who Do You Think You Are Live.

Julia is proud of her work and is well regarded by those she works with because she takes a caring, personal and genuine interest in every case she accepts. This is her passion and it shows.

Finding lost families can be emotional work and Julia’s empathetic warmth is constantly apparent to clients. She regularly hosts ‘DNA Days’ for those wishing to learn about utilising DNA to find family members. These days allow Julia’s current and interested clients to network and establish friendships and connections in a warm and friendly atmosphere, things Julia sees as extremely important for people who have grown up alone, with no knowledge of their origins.

As DNA testing becomes more common in the UK, Julia is keen to promote genetic genealogy and to show the benefits of DNA testing. Julia’s message is ‘this can be done’ and family mysteries can be solved.
